Loved this book. It will help me to understand and and aide my friends who are hesitant to believe by faith.
Dana takes us on a gutsy journey in her quest for answers about the existence of God. She seeks out people who have devoted their life to religion. Her questions and thoughts are brave, bold and at times funny. The book provoked feelings about spirituality I had long forgotten. When faced with her mortality, Dana seeks more than medicine for a cure.
As friend and colleague of Dana Watts, I have been privileged to share in her journey to find meaning and God. She was encouraged by many, including me, to put her story into writing and I am pleased to report that the result is a work of great heart and vision. I have long appreciated the courage and spirit of my friend and am delighted that others will come to know her through this work.
This book is so much more than the story of someone's journey with cancer. Ms. Watts has shared with her readers a deeply personal view of her search to find faith beyond her lifelong, atheistic views. Her courage in facing a difficult cancer diagnosis is rivaled only by her intense pursuit to discover something so much deeper...the existence and love of God. Everyone has difficult times and roadblocks in life. Such is the case with this author when she takes you along her journey as she struggles with the diagnosis of breast cancer and the search for faith. It will make you shed some tears while it inspires you.
I am beginning my journey in finding faith. I could relate to all "Dana's" questions and enjoyed hearing all the priests and rabbis answers.
This is a very personal story of a journey to faith. What I most admired in Dana's telling is the thoughtful all inclusive exploration that finally leads her closer to an inner resolution. To my mind, the answers she ultimately finds within aren't as important as the methods she uses getting there. This is not a book that offers universal easy answers, which do not exist for a deep thinker (like Ms. Watts), but instead poses questions that beg for exploration. This would be a good book for follow up discussions, and therefore I would think a faith-based book group might find it an excellent choice.
